A great challenge that we had not anticipated awaited us in our free surgical camp. Raju Barela, a young 35-year-old man aged came to camp, with a big growth on the lower right side of his body. The growth in his body was enormous and an uncommon thing to see. Raju was just 15 years old when this growth first appeared in his body. The growth gradually began to increase and became so large that it began to protrude out and was visible from the outside. We were shocked to see his X-ray which showed the growth had spread its roots to the intestines and chest. It became evident that the surgery wouldn’t be easy. Finally, when the surgery got over and the growth was weighed – it weighed about three kilograms. After the surgery, Raju was shifted to ICU. We were grateful to have been able to conduct the camp in a place where there was an ICU facility. Though we started the day with much anxiety, it ended with great satisfaction that we were able to remove not only the growth but also the pain, humiliation, and sadness this growth had brought into the life of Raju. A New life now awaited Raju.
