With a fresh new rolling in, our efforts to help alleviate the pain of others have kicked in afresh. With the goal of help improve access to better medical care, we have organized a Free Screening camp in Semiliguda, Odisha from the 26th of February to the 28th of February. This camp is conducted as a precursor to the upcoming Surgical camp.
The Navjeevan Medical team left Delhi in the early hours on the 26th of February and reached Semiliguda after a five-hour journey from Vishakapatam. We were greeted with the sight of a large crowd of people, from near and as far away as Malkangiri, waiting for consultation. More than 260 patients were seen by Dr. Philip John, a part of the ongoing Navjeevan Medical Screening camp.
Soon, the crowd grew too large, and the patients were divided into groups of tens. Dr. Babitha Kallimel saw patients requiring consultation related to surgical, gynaecological or pediatric issues. Dr. Philip saw patients requiring general medical consultation under general medical consultation.
A total of 52 patients were selected for the upcoming surgical camp. The lab work was done for these 52 patients, free of cost. Thanks to a sister working in the medical field, communication with the patients in the regional language was made easy for the doctors. The medical team could refer patients suffering from infertility issues to local hospitals for further treatments.
The medical team saw patients, some young as 13 to 17 year old, suffering from sickle cell disease, issues of thyroid, hypospadias, hernia etc. We look forward eagerly to the Day 2 of our medical camp, hoping our presence will bring a breeze of relief to some who have been looking forward to it.
