When the nation came to a standstill during the Corona times, our hearts were beating, eagerly waiting for the doors to be opened again. We knew there would be people in different parts of our county who are in need of good medical care, which most people in the villages and backward areas would not have access to. So, in March 2022, we decided we would go to Sendhwa, in Madhya Pradesh, and conduct a free surgical camp. A pre-surgical screening was conducted in Sendhwa on the 3rd and 4th of March 2022. More than 400 people turned up for the screening, which span across two days, with two doctors to select the patients for the surgical camp. A total of 56 patients were selected for the Free surgical camp conducted in Sendhwa, from the 4th to the 6th April 2022. A total of 56 surgeries were conducted by the Navjeevan Surgical team, across 3 days’ time. There were many challenges to conduct the camp at Sendhwa. The lack of experienced doctors, unavailability of the hospital where it was decided to conduct the surgery, etc. were some of the obstacles we had to overcome. But at the right time, we were able to get the right doctors as well as a hospital where we could conduct the camp. The majority of the surgeries conducted here were related to gynecological issues in women and related to tumors in various parts of the body that could be malignant.
The free surgical camp was a much-needed comfort for many who could otherwise not afford the cost of treatment.
