Why this project exists

The gap no one else fills.

In remote villages across India, a child can attend school and still never learn to read. Classrooms are overcrowded, teachers are stretched thin, and at home there is often no one who can help — many parents never had the chance to learn themselves. Without support after school hours, children fall behind, lose confidence, and drop out. The NCDS Literacy Project closes that gap: free, daily, personal academic support in the village itself.

Open Door Learning

53 centres, six days a week.

Launched in 2023, the Open Door Learning Programme today runs 53 tuition centres educating more than 1,600 students in Classes 1–8. Each centre is staffed by a trained local teacher who delivers free tuition six days a week.

Our centre in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, alone serves more than 90 students. Beyond academics, every centre celebrates Republic Day and Independence Day and gives children a safe, joyful place to belong.

Higher Education

Leaders from within the community.

For students who finish school and dream of more, our Higher Education Programme provides financial support and mentorship toward degrees in arts, science, and commerce.

The goal is bigger than a certificate: we are building teachers, nurses, organisers, and leaders who come from — and return to — the communities we serve.
